Abstract
Interlingual onomasiological symmetries and asymmetries: a case of Gallicisms in Slovak (example of agent nouns). The study of Gallicisms in Slovak has a solid history, and, in recent years, it has evolved to include numerous morphological and adaptational aspects arising from the qualitative features of this vocabulary borrowed directly from French. Interlingual onomasiological comparison represents a new stage in the panorama of studies of Gallicisms in Slovak. The present study addresses the qualitative and quantitative aspects of onomasiological symmetries and asymmetries between lexemes of French origin (loanwords) in Slovak and their French semantic equivalents. The selection of the lexical material is based on the derivational criteria necessary to identify the onomasiological category of (masculine) agent nouns. Methodologically, parameters such as type of lexical motivation, onomasiological structure, onomasiological transparency, and number of autosemantic components present in a complex word are applied. The proposed analysis could be followed by a more systematic comparative onomasiological study, encompassing other onomasiological categories such as nouns denoting actions or qualities
